For a pilgrim to be sponsored on an Ohio Via de Cristo Weekend there are several requirements.
- A Via de Cristo Weekend is an emotional and deeply spiritual experience not suited for everyone.
Anyone attending a weekend must be a baptized, committed Christian and be physically and emotionally able to experience the weekend completely.
TALK TO GOD ABOUT YOUR PROSPECT BEFORE YOU TALK TO YOUR PROSPECT ABOUT GOD.
- Clergy endorsement is required. Check with the endorsing clergy before approaching a prospect to ensure that endorsement will be forthcoming. Failure to do so can cause serious embarrassment, for pastors may know something unknown to sponsor which makes that person an unsuitable candidate for Via de Cristo. If the appropriate clergy decline to endorse an application for any other reason, notify a Secretariat member in your area so the problem can be addressed at the appropriate level, or contact the Ohio Spiritual Director. DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL SUCH AN ISSUE IS RESOLVED BY THE PROPER PERSONS.
- Once you have clergy concurrence, approach the prospective pilgrim, answer any questions, explain that a free-will offering will be taken at the Weekend to defray future weekend expenses, as their costs have already been paid by previous pilgrims and members of the community. Assist in filling out the Pilgrim Application to insure accuracy and completeness. Ensure each application contains all required signatures, is legible and complete,
especially the date of birth and "First name you wish for your weekend" entries.
- For each applicant, mail the fully completed Pilgrim Application and Sponsor Application along with your non-refundable check in the amount of $15.00 to:

Cincinnati, OH 45253. APPLICANTS AND SPONSORS WILL RECEIVE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF APPLICATIONS, BOTH WILL BE NOTIFIED OF FINAL ACTION AND SENT INSTRUCTIONS TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE SELECTED WEEKEND.
- Stay in contact with your applicant and give your active support.

Pilgrim:
Almost all of the following questions should be answered in the affirmative before anyone should be considered for weekend participation.
- Does the pilgrim desire to grow as a Christian? They must have been baptized.
- Does this person have the potential for leadership in their environment?
- Does this person have the capacity for careful listening and understanding?
- Is this person seriously open to change?
- Is this person mature, responsible and in good emotional health?
- Is this person physically capable of full participation in the weekend?
- Does this person understand that the Via de Cristo is more than just attending a weekend?
- Is this person able to live in a close community with others?
- Does this person really want to attend a weekend?
- Is this person free from serious stress, personal crisis,health, job or marital difficulties, etc.?
SPONSOR GUIDELINES
- Have you been living the 4th Day and understand the goals of Via de Cristo?
- Have you prayed for guidance before taking any action toward sponsoring this person?
- Have you told your applicant about the 4th Day?
- Have you ensured that your applicant really wants to participate, not just do you a "favor"?
- Have you offered to assist with baby, pet, house sitting, etc.?
- Have you offered transportation to and from the weekend?
- Have you agreed to support your applicant with Prayer, Palanca and your presence at the closing?
- Do you agree to actively assist your applicant to join a Group Reunion, participate in Ultreya, even if you are required to be part of that Group Reunion?
- Do you agree to support your applicant in the 4th Day for at least six months after the weekend?
IF ALL YOUR ANSWERS ARE
YES,
THEN COMPLETE THE APPLICATION!
